I'm in need for some topic ideas. Lately my mind has been a dry well when it comes to entry topics. Got anything on your mind lately?

Whatever you do, don't use the high school escape and write something like: "I was sitting down tonight trying to think of something to write" and make that you're piece.

Now that I think about it, a ton of kids used that escape when it came to open ended writing assignments. Oh boy those were the days.

Dang *goes to delete my latest post*. Just kidding. I agree. I've done some posts like that in the past and I could virtually feel the readers rolling their eyes.

Specifically I'm looking for Spritual topics that y'all have been thinking about lately which I could perhaps expound upon. If I use your idea, of course, I'll credit you and link you.

With regards to reincarnation does any events in our prior life reflect upon us in the current one?

Thanks Scrivs. I liked that topic. http://openswitch.org/2006/08/07/your-karma-ran-over-my-dogma/

Glad to help. I can suggest topics all day long with regards to religion. It's fascinating.

What about comparing scientific "facts" of evolution to religious evolution of man as stated in the Bible?

Great attitute to have, Scrivs. :) Seems too many people dismiss it as ignorant or superstition or whatever else. Curiousity is a great thing! :D

A topic that fascinates me in regard to religion is the similarities found between paganism and Christianity. There's a huge debate as to whether even hell was ever a part of the Bible until the branching out of Christianity into countries with pagan beliefs, where they tended to have beliefs of "fiery pits" and such. Wikipedia has a nice roundup of criticisms in regard to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_of_Hell

A second topic might be on Near-Death Experiences (NDEs). I believe NDEs occur, without a doubt, and I feel there is probably an explanation for them that falls between both religion and science. However, I find it interesting the kinds of NDEs people have. You oft hear of the heaven or hell ones, but there are others as well, usually ones that reflect a person's beliefs in life. Might be interesting to write about.

I'm always intrigued by people's personal journeys to the faith they have now. What made you a Christian as opposed to a Buddhist or a Muslim for example? (Or any variation there-of).

I am always faintly in awe, and ever so slightly confused, by people of profound belief in any faith.

This is partly due, no doubt, to my own meandering journey from Christianity, to Buddhism, and beyond to something unique and personal that works for me. I'm always curious how people got where they are now. Was it one defining moment, or a gradual journey, or something that they were raised in and just never got around to questioning? It's also the scientist in me I guess, but I always want to know why?

Something that comes up on ScrivsTyme often is destiny and fate. Do we really have a choice when we make the decisions we make or has He planned our destiny for us?

Ben: I wonder if you'd mind if I used an idea from this thread as well?

As for topic ideas, there's always the stand-by topic of the Middle East, specifically Israel. Many of the people I know wholeheartedly support Israel as they are "God's people," and are hoping her enemies are ground to dust, and that attitute stands out with red flags waving against "Love your enemies," as Jesus taught. Do the God-directed wars of the Jews in the OT justify today's war? Or is Jesus' teaching binding? I tend to favor the latter, but it makes for interesting discussion whenever it's brought up. :D

lelia: I like that topic. I may have to cover that one in a podcast, maybe ;).

Cas: That's a great topic too. I hadn't thought about writing a post about that.

Tyme: Another good topic.

Rick: Go for it. The issue of Israel is a fascinating one to me. I think I may have to write about that soon.
